Put three dates in order

  1. Access is confirmed. Know when you can actually let the cleaning crew in, not just the expected closing or key-collection date.
  2. Messy work is finished. If flooring, sanding, or painting is planned, coordinate the final glass cleaning after that work and its cleanup. Otherwise, the same windows may need attention again.
  3. The moving truck arrives. An empty room gives the crew a clear route to the glass without working around sofas, bed frames, and stacks of cartons.

Use the gap between the second and third dates as your preferred appointment window. That is a planning suggestion, not a required number of days or a promise of availability.

If there is no empty-house gap

Move in first and reserve space around the windows until cleaning is complete. Tell the movers which rooms need that access; choose a box-staging area away from those windows.

For example, if keys and furniture arrive Friday but the painter finishes Monday, a separate visit after the painter’s work is complete is easier to coordinate than a Friday cleaning followed by touch-ups. Follow the painter’s instructions about when newly finished surfaces can be worked around.

Interior and exterior access may also become available at different times. Consider the two sides separately when choosing the window-cleaning scope.

Flag renovation residue before the visit

Paint specks, adhesive, and construction residue need assessment; do not treat them as ordinary dust or scrape them off while unpacking. Andersen’s care guidance warns against metal razor blades and abrasive tools and requires identifying the glass type before selecting a cleaner. Share the window manufacturer’s instructions and any photos taken safely from the floor or ground. Do not assume construction-residue removal is included in a routine cleaning.

Keep one short handoff note

  • Confirmed access date and the person who will open up.
  • Last contractor visit and any unfinished work near the windows.
  • Furniture delivery date and where boxes will be staged.
  • Rooms and glass surfaces to clean; any renovation residue to assess.
